Why Sully Is One of Clint Eastwood Best Movies

Sully is one of Clint Eastwood best movies and you’ll see the reasons for that.

Clint Eastwood is one of the most acclaimed directors in Hollywood history. He has made a wide range of films, from Westerns to dramas to thrillers. However, one of his most underrated films is Sully (2016).

After his role in Sergio Leone’s A Fistful of Dollars as “The Man With No Name”, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, and For A Few Dollars More, made him an international star, Eastwood quickly proved that he could direct incredible western movies on his own with the likes of Pale Rider, High Plains Drifter, The Outlaw Josey Wales, and the Unforgiven.

Beside western movies, other films he has directed like Invictus, Million Dollar Baby, American Sniper, and Gran Torino have also earned him an equal amount of praise and a high reputation.

Sully

Eastwood’s film Sully is a biographical drama film about Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, the pilot who landed a commercial jetliner in the Hudson River after both engines were disabled by a bird strike. The film stars Tom Hanks as Sully and Aaron Eckhart as Jeff Skiles, his co-pilot.

Despite mixed reviews from the ‘Time’ and The Guardian, Sully is one of Eastwood’s best movies because of a number of remarkable reasons.

Why Sully Is One of Clint Eastwood’s Best Movies

1. A Strong Exploration of Trauma

In terms of depicting Trauma, Sully despite being a professional, was able to remain comported throughout the film. Because he has never lost a passenger during a flight, Sully ensures he guarantees everyone’s safety.

Regarding what happened in the 9/11 tragedy, the film referenced it respectfully. Because the crash involved a plane in New York, many characters’ haunting image of a burning plane were forced to reflect on the haunting image of a burning plane in the 9/11 tragedy.

2. The Acting

The acting in Sully is another one of the strongest points of why Sully is one of Eastwood’s best movies. Tom Hanks gives a tour-de-force performance as Sully. He perfectly captures Sully’s quiet confidence, his professionalism, and his sense of duty. Aaron Eckhart is also excellent as Jeff Skiles. He brings a sense of humor and levity to the film, which helps to balance out Hanks’ more serious performance.

The supporting cast is also very good. Laura Linney is particularly memorable as Sully’s wife, Lorraine. She brings a lot of warmth and humanity to the role.

The Directing and Screenplay

Clint Eastwood is a master director, and he brings his considerable talents to Sully. The film is beautifully shot and edited. Eastwood creates a sense of tension and suspense throughout the film, without ever resorting to cheap thrills and capturing the emotional journey of Sully and his crew.

The screenplay for Sully is based on the book Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters by Chesley Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow. It does a great job of adapting the book to the screen. It captures the essential details of the story, while also adding some dramatic flair.

Comparison to Other Films

Sully has been compared to other films about real-life heroes, such as Apollo 13 (1995) and The Right Stuff (1983). However, Sully is a much more intimate film than these other films because focuses on the personal journey of Sully and his crew, rather than the larger-than-life events of the Hudson River landing.

This focus on the personal makes Sully allow us to connect with Sully and his crew on a deeper level. We see the fear and uncertainty that they experience, as well as their courage and determination.
