In Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba, every demon slayer sword color has a meaning. The swords are known as Nichirin swords, a special sword built from a special ore that can absorb sunlight.
The Demon Slayers are part of an organization called the Demon Slayer Corps. Their sole responsibility is to protect Japan from human-eating demons who only come out at night.
When a demon slayer grips the handle of a Nichirin blade, it turns a specific color and each demon slayer sword color has a unique meaning. Each hue conveys some properties to the Nichirin blade and its owner.

Demon Slayer Sword Color Meanings
1. Black Swords Symbolizes The Sun
One of the prominent demon slayer sword colors is the Black sword which is wielded by Tanjiro Kamado.
Tanjiro Kamado wields a black Nichirin blade, which is quite rare, as demon slayers who wield them are doomed to die young. But the saying that no wielder of a black sword has ever become a Hashira, can be seen as mere superstition.
As you go deeper into the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba manga chapters, you will find out that the black blade is indicative of the Sun Breathing style. And because the color black absorbs the highest sunlight, it is very deadly to demons.
2. Green Swords Represents The Wind
Green is one of the demon slayer sword colors that usually indicates an expert in Wind Breathing. Wind Hashira, Sanemi Shinazugawa is the most known demon slayer who wields this sword color. He can use his sword to unleash tornadoes of slashes upon any demon while fighting a demon.
Sanemi Shinazugawa is one of the violent demon slayers because of his intense fighting style. He is bent on exterminating every single demon on the planet.
3. Indigo-Gray Swords Symbolizes The Beast
Inosuke Hashibira, the boar-headed tsundere demon slayer and swordsman who wields the indigo-gray blade. The indigo Nichirin blade is two and significantly chipped.
The indigo sword color means Inosuke can carry out the Beast Breathing style. However, his short temper and high aggression are based on the fact that he’s lived in the mountains for a very long time.
4. Lavender Blades Symbolises The Serpent
Lavender blades are another one of the demon slayer sword colors and it represents the Serpent and the Serpent Breathing style. Serpent Breathing is a branch of Water Breathing and it is used by Serpent Hashira, Obanai Iguro.
His blade is capable of slithering and bending to form a snake, so his attacks can be pretty unpredictable, even cutting through tiny openings. This amazing technique makes Obanai an expert demon slayer and swordsman and he was able to go head-to-head with Muzan Kibutsuji.
5. Yellow Swords Represents Thunder
Another one of the demon slayer sword colors is The yellow Nichirin blade, which belongs to Zenitsu Agatsuma. The yellow color represents thunder.
Although Zenitsu acts like a coward most times, in battle, he can use the speed of lightning to finish demons instantly. His sword can form a lightning bolt motif engulfing the whole blade making it flashy and awesome-looking.

6. A Gray Sword Represents Stone
The demon slayer sword color of Gray indicates two things. One is that the blade wielder could be a master Stone Breathing. The second is that they cannot wield a traditional Nichirin blade. Stone Hashira Gyomei Himejima is the demon slayer who wields a hefty axe attached to a large chain.
Stone Breathing is involved with objectivity and detachment from emotions. But Gyomei is the total opposite. He freely sheds a few tears or expresses his feelings. Furthermore, the Stone Hashira is also very kind.
7. Blue Swords Represents Water
The blue Nichirin blade is one of the first Nichirin swords shown in the series and it represents water. The Water Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Giyu Tomioka, is the known user of the blue blade. He can use the Water Breathing style, and his fighting style involves moving fluidly, like water as guts any demon.
Infact, he is one of the most formidable Hashiras in Demon Slayer. He was able to defeat both the Lower Moon Five demon, Father Spider Demon, and Rui, with one fluid motion for each kill.
8. Amber Blades Symbolize Sound
One of the demon slayer sword colors is Amber Nichirin blades which represent sound. The Sound Hashira, Tengen Uzui, carries two gigantic, heavy cleavers that are connected by a chain. He can swing them around with ease, killing low-level demons instantly.
Tengen’s fighting style is as flashy as his outlook. He originated the Sound Breathing, so he can simultaneously use his unique hearing abilities with his skills as a master demon slayer. We saw this during his fight with the Upper-Rank Six of the Twelve Kizuki, Daki, and Gyutaro.
9. White Swords Symbolize Mist
Muichiro Tokito, the Mist Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps is the known user of the white sword which symbolizes mist. He is a master swordsman and one of the best demon slayers in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba.
The beautiful white Nichirinblade is wielded by masters of Mist Breathing. Mist Hashira uses the Mist Breathing technique. Though it isn’t one of the original Breathing Styles, it reflects his stoic and calm personality.
10. Red Swords Symbolize Flames
Last but not least of the demon slayer sword colors is the red Nichirin blade, which Kyojuro Rengoku wields.
The color represents flame. Kyojuro Rengoku himself is a charismatic Hashira with a strong sense of morals. He can get rid of any demon by slaying burns from the intense heat of a burning flame.
Kyojuro’s blade color has a unique pattern of a flame motif that engulfs the whole of his blade. These flames are associated with Kyojuro’s Flame Breathing style.
